Rainbo Initiative Helpline

Rainbo Initiative Tele-Counselling Helpline is a free, confidential service dedicated to supporting survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) in Sierra Leone. Operated by Rainbo Initiative, a national NGO focused on responding to and preventing SGBV, our helpline provides accessible psychosocial support via phone, ensuring that help is available regardless of location.

We primarily assist women, girls, and other vulnerable individuals who have experienced trauma, including sexual assault, domestic violence, self-harm risks, suicidal ideation, or other emotional crises. Our team of trained counsellors follows a survivor-centred approach, empowering clients to define their own goals while offering empathetic, non-judgmental guidance.

Specialising in trauma-informed care, we conduct initial intakes to assess mental health needs, safety concerns, and presenting issues, then collaboratively develop support plans. Sessions emphasize active listening, validation of emotions, coping strategy development, and referrals to Rainbo Centres for in-person medical treatment, economic empowerment, or additional services.

We also provide crisis intervention to stabilize urgent situations and create safety plans. Upholding principles of confidentiality, cultural competency, and professional boundaries, our helpline optimizes tele-counseling techniques to foster a safe virtual environment, helping clients build resilience and navigate recovery.

Available through our toll-free number 599, this service complements our network of nine Rainbo Centres across Sierra Leone, extending support to those in remote areas or unable to visit in person. Whether facing immediate danger or long-term emotional challenges, our helpline is committed to promoting healing and community empowerment against gender-based violence.
