Samoa Victim Support Group (SVSG) is the voice of the voiceless and a recognised human rights defender. It is a proactive non-governmental organisation (NGO) established in 2005 with a mission to provide integrated, personalised, professional services for victims of crime. SVSG protects and promotes the rights of women, children and vulnerable populations, specifically their right to be free from abuse.
Initially set up to care, support, and help victims of sexual crimes, SVSG saw after the first few cases it handled that victims of other areas also sought to get help. As such, work was extended to embrace survivors of all forms of violence.
Today, SVSG remains the only organisation in Samoa that provides shelter assistance for victims of all forms of abuse and neglect. It is the main service provider for victims and survivors of gender-based violence in Samoa and is vocal in advocating for women’s rights. SVSG also aims to protect and promote the rights of children. All SVSG personnel comply with SVSG’s Child Protection Policy and Code of Conduct.
The initiatives driven by our phenomenal President and CEO Lina Chang have seen SVSG develop stability, strength, and a game-changing force to be reckoned with, both in Samoa and overseas where countless victims of crime have received help.
SVSG believes that greater awareness of human rights will provide civil society with the knowledge to ensure these rights are upheld. SVSG continues to work hard with the help of its sponsors, partners, and volunteers to build safer families and stronger communities in Samoa. A strong, proud and successful community does not tolerate any form of violence against women and children. Together, we can ensure victims and survivors are well-supported, safe, and in control of restoring their lives.
