About Mental Health Uganda - Toll Free

Mental Health Uganda (MHU) operates a toll-free helpline, 0800 21 21 21, dedicated to providing free and confidential mental health support across Uganda. The helpline is available Monday to Friday, from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, connecting callers to trained mental health counselors who offer immediate emotional support, guidance, and referrals to further care.

The helpline is open to people of all ages and backgrounds, including young people, adults, caregivers, and community members who may be struggling with their mental health or supporting someone who is. Whether you are feeling overwhelmed by stress, anxiety, depression, grief, or trauma, or simply need someone to talk to, our compassionate counselors are here to listen and help you navigate difficult emotions and situations.

MHU’s helpline is part of the ATLAS project, which runs in six districts across Uganda, making mental health support more accessible, even in underserved communities. We prioritize inclusivity by offering services in multiple local languages, ensuring callers can express themselves in the language they are most comfortable with.

Our counselors provide psychosocial support, practical coping strategies, and accurate information on mental health conditions. When necessary, they also guide callers to community resources or mental health services for ongoing care. This holistic approach ensures that people not only receive immediate support but are also connected to longer-term solutions.

At Mental Health Uganda, we believe that #ConversationsChangeLives — and every call is a step toward hope, healing, and breaking the stigma surrounding mental health. If you or someone you know needs support, don’t hesitate to reach out. You are not alone, and help is just a call away.
